ETSY Front Page...Finally!!!!

Hello everyone...well it happened this morning. I made the front page of Etsy!!!!! Yeah!!!!!!
I am so excited and grateful to the person who included me in their treasury pick. Who ever you are...thank you, thank you, thank you!! I knew it was a good idea to use the word butterscotch in describing my scarf. Of course it doesn't hurt to have your creations modeled by a real beauty like my niece Kelly. Thank you Kelly and many thanks to her mom , Celia for taking such great photos. My view skyrocketed and oh yes, did I say I was excited? What a great way to end the month of February. Things can only go up from here. Goodnight all. Be well.

Morning Power Drink?

My little friends never fail to make me smile in the morning.  This little beauty just showed up for a breakfast drink. Don't you just love his color.

More Whimsical Pin Cushions from Etsy!

I have found more wonderful pin cushions to share with you. These are from a great little Etsy shop digiliodesigns.etsy.com and you need to drop in and say hello to Sue, the artist.  I just love the heart shape of their sweet faces..how creative Sue is. I contacted Sue and as it turns out she lives in the very town I grew up in. Small world indeed!
I was notified yesterday that one of my fingerless gloves was featured on the Website Indiespotting.com. Thank you Indie.
Well I will post again soon, but until then be kind.

Beautiful Vintage finds on Etsy!

Hello friends, today I was browsing on my favorite online shopping site, Etsy. I have been craving vintage lately and I found some more fabulous vintage pin cushions. I love the creativeness of all the many shop owners on Etsy. I hope you enjoy my little finds. These two are from CarriersCozyCottage.etsy.com.  I think I might make some pin cushions of my own. It would be a great way to use up all my odds and ends of fabric, lace, buttons and embellishments. If I make them I will post for your critique.
I spent the day embellishing some fingerless gloves I am making for my etsy shop. What a fun way to spend a day...I love my life! Until next time, be kind.

She got me again!!!

Hello friends, yesterday I went into town (Warrenton, Va.) to show my Apronology magazine to my friend Kelly Ann. She owns a fabulous quilt shop in old town Warrenton. I have a love/hate relationship with her shop. I love her selection of gorgeous fabrics and I hate the fact that even when I only pop in to say hello, I end up buying a couple a yards of fabric. She gets me every time!!! I posted a pic of my new purchase. This fabric makes me think...Spring!
Speaking of spring, I recently stumbled onto a beautiful etsy shop called rosemarysgarden.etsy.com. She creates very elegant and fun pin cushions using vintage figurines and lots of vintage embellishments. You must take a look at her little shop. I especially love her heart of remembrance hanging pillow. I posted a few photo's above.

February has been a good month so far!

Hello everyone, so sorry it has been a while since my last post. I promise not to be so lazy. I will make an effort to get to my blog at least once a week...hey that's a lot for me.  Well as I stated in the title, February is shaping up to be a great month for The Empty Nest. My full page feature in the new Magazine (Apronology) by Somerset Studios, came out last week and I have purchased every copy I could get my hands on. I then realized that if I owned every copy, how would anyone else know about my fifteen minutes of fame! I ended up selling some back to the shops. Silly me. It is a thrill to see my name in print and a big photo of one of my creations.
If that wasn't enough, I have been lucky enough to be considered for a feature spot in two other blogs. I feel so honored when people think enough of my work to want to pass it along to others. I will give you all the details when all is finalized .
I have been very busy creating some new fingerless gloves. I have been crafting them from my sweater stash. I will post pic's soon.
Well I must say good night and I wish you joy until next post.

Work in progress

Morning friends, hope you have all been well. I have been busy hunting down the elusive thrift store cashmere sweater. Boy, have I found some beauties. I scored a fabulous 100% cashmere turtleneck in the most wonderful red you have ever seen. It fulled like a dream and is is the softest thing you have ever felt. Now I need to decide what to do with it. It is almost too perfect to cut up (this ones gonna hurt). I am also working on the cute sweater above. I am always amazed how these adult sweaters come out my washing machine fit for a 4 year old.  I have needle felted flowers on the front and back and turned it into a cardigan. I am not sure if it needs any more embellishing as it also has the original knitted design. What do you think? Maybe just something cute for the closure.
P.S.  Just to clear something up...I noticed most crafters on the internet use the word FELT when talking about shrinking their wool sweaters to use as fabric. This is not really the correct term, as felting refers to the process by which you turn raw wool fibers or roving into an irreversible fabric. In this category is wet felting(using hot soapy water and agitation) and needle felting(using a barbed needle). When you wash a wool sweater and it shrinks and gets soft and fluffy that is called FULLING. Just a little FYI.
