~Most Romantic Love Letter Ever.. Revisited~

Hello friends...Happy Valentines Day!
I decide to repost the Sullivan Ballou love letter
that I shared with you quite a while back.
You can look high and low
and never find a sweeter, more heartfelt tribute
to
LOVE
Enjoy

I have noticed that with the popularity of computers and the internet, something has gone missing in our society. It seems as though the ability to compose a hand written letter..not a note, but a real honest to goodness letter has been lost in the process. When we do shoot each other quick e-mails, we use computer jargon and lots of abreviations to get our message across. If the person on the other end of your e-mail does not know what ROFL or what <3 stands for..your note gets even more lost. I would like to take this special day..Valentines Day..to share with you my all time favorite love letter. This letter was written by Major Sullivan Ballou, a Union soldier with the 2nd  Rhode Island volunteers. Sullivan wrote his letter in 1861, 1 week before the First Battle of Bull Run in Manassas, Virginia (20 minutes from my home).  I recommend you listen to this reading with your eyes closed so you are not distracted.
                                                                 Major Sullivan Ballou

Wasn't that beautiful and intensely sincere? When he talks about the soft breeze on her cheek and the cool air fanning her temple, being his spirit....I break down everytime.  I love that he talks of his two loves...his country and his family, with equal passion and devotion. To me this is a very special piece of American history. So with that said , I would like to wish all my cyber friends a Happy Valentines Day. Be sure to tell someone that you love them today and until next time...be kind and stay creative.

                                   I love you Mr.Secret Agent!
I love you Billy and Sean!

P.S. ....and a very special Happy Valentines Day
to my three men, I love you all very much.

Janet,

Thank you for sharing this letter and for expressing your ideas about the importance of a handwritten letter. I was an English teacher for five years and during our non-fiction study, we discussed the advantages of the written word and we studied some famous letters. I wish that I had had this letter as an example as it is so poetic and it points to a higher standard of patriotism to our beloved country, another thing we have lost.
May you have a Happy Valentine's Day.

Happy Valentines Day! There is much to be said for being able to call, skype or email a loved one easily, but I am afraid the computer generation will never know the joy of a beautiful letter in the mail.

Thank you Janet! It brought tears to my eyes esp when I realized it was his final letter. I shared it with Mom and Skippy. He was over frolicing in the snow...what's left of it! It made an impression on a 15yr old boy who is a texting fool and who wants to go into the military. It made him think...not always an easy thing!
♥Happy Valentine's Day♥
