Tahlula Make her National Debut!

Hello friends...I think I might have posted about Tahlula before, however, I need to brag about her once more because she has gone National!  Somerset Studios, a national magazine publisher, often puts out "challenges" to artist' from all over the world. There is always a definite theme to these challenges.  They publish approximately 15 or so beautiful coffee table publications. In 2009 I was lucky enough to be chosen for the premier issue of 'Apron*ology '. Needless to say I was thrilled to have one of my aprons included among many stunning entries.
                                                   I got a whole page!!
I think she held her own among all the beautiful creations in the issue..but I'm biased ;-)
Well last year..many months ago, I read about a new challenge. The magazine issue was the 'Art Doll  Quarterly'. They were asking artist' to create dolls using recycled materials..or as it is often referred to "upcycling'. I submitted my lovely doll Tahlula and then proceeded to totally forget about it. Well to my complete surprise an advance issue arrived in the mail last month and I was stunned to see my doll on page 74. No one from the magazine had notified me prior as they normally do. I just assumed I was not chosen this go round.
                                                Meet Tahlula...Isn't she sweet?

Tahlula comes with a cute story...
Tahlula loves turtleneck sweaters and vintage lace. She has very expensive taste and is never without her favorite diamond earrings. All the other dolls are jealous of her fabulous style. She flys to Paris every month to have her hair styled and eyebrows waxed. I am thinking of creating some sisters for her to go shopping with. She would love having someone to tell her how chic she looks.
P.S. Don't tell Tahlula, but she is really made from a recycled felted wool sweaters and some thrifted fabric remnants, vintage buttons and old lace. She would be mortified if she knew her clothes were from Goodwill and not Chanel!
I think they might have enjoyed the story more than the actual doll as most of the other entries are pretty intricate. I'm thrilled they appreciated her simple style. Again..please excuse my bragging on myself, but darn it is so thrilling to see your name in print!! You just cannot help but want to tell others about your good fortune. OK...enough shining my own apple ;-)  Speaking of apples... I have already baked my pie for this Friday (no, it's not another apple pie) and it was designated as a "keeper" by my hubby. So be sure to come back later to see what pie I chose. Until next time..be kind and stay creative.

How stinkin' cute is Tahlula...and yes she needs a few sisters' to hang and go shopping with...I'm thinking that cute little hairdo she's sporting looks a little like yours....

Lovely doll, and more well deserved publicity for you! (Is that ticking you made her legs from?) Congratulations! :)

I also like to wear turtlenecks just like Tahlula but I am not as pretty as she is!

Just loooooove this doll Janet! She is gorgeous :) Such a fabulous background story too - that apron ain't half bad BTW! Quite right to 'brag', I would too!

One of my 'tweedies' was 'in print' once but the pic was so small you could hardly see it - boo hoo :(

I can't believe you make dolls too!! No wonder I like you!! I make soft sculpture dolls from panyhose with painted faces. I love them so much I haven't got into making them to sell. Maybe...one day! I think I will post them on the blog so you can see!
I got inspired by you the other day to make new apron! I picked up my copy of Apron*ology and saw all the great aprons, esp yours! I'm in the process of making an upcycled half apron...
Congrats on your success!!

Congratulations!!!!! You have every right to brag and I'll listen any time you want to! Tahlula is just delightful and probably thinks she is quite deserving to be in a magazine!

Hey Janet, thanks for dropping by my blog, great to hear from you.Congratulations,go ahead and 'shine you apple' (that's one I haven't heard, but will keep in mind, I love it)how exciting to see your name in print and one of your creations in a magazine. I hope Tahlula doesn't manage to get hold of Art Doll Quarterly, or you might have a bit of explaining to do!! Also love the apron, looks like something Tahlula might wear if she ever needed to!
