~When less is more~

Hello friends....welcome back.
I know lately I have been going outside the box when it comes to painting my refurbished furniture pieces.
Different colors..mixing colors and graphic designs.
But you know....
sometimes less is more.
Let me show you an example of what I am talking about..

I bought this accent table at my local Salvation Macy's
and she sat in my basement for a few months.
I wasn't quite sure what to do with her.
Her two flip up sides gave her a great wide open canvas
to maybe paint a cool graphic.
Union Jack..or stripes..or maybe a nice stencil design.
The more I looked at my dark and chunky
1970's colonial table
The more I thought...
just keep her clean...light, pretty and
Clean

I decided a new face of Old White
a little distressing along her curved edges
to make them pop
and
a beautiful blue in the drawer
was what she needed.

Instant diet plan
she just lost 10 pounds of her old chunkiness

Clean...clean...clean

I carefully distressed along the curved lines
Now you notice her curves and not her
'chunk'

I am really loving the 'let the brush strokes show' cottage look.
I purposely put the strokes in
I love the texture

I painted the inside/outside of the drawer a soft mix of
Louis Blue/Old White and a tad bit of Duck Egg.

She is lined with a pretty French inspired wallpaper that I decoupaged
into the bottom of the drawer.
Pretty
POP
of color when you open the drawer
unexpected and very welcomed.
So when you are refurbishing your thrifted dressers
and furniture pieces
keep in mind that often times
~less is more~

I'll leave you with this..
I just finished my very first tin of
Annie Sloan Clear Wax!!
Yup...every project I have posted about plus a few more I haven't
has been waxed from this can.
Talk about getting your money's worth.
Tomorrow I will announcing the two winners of the
Fashionable Fabrics
Giveaway
so do come back!

Until next time...be kind and stay creative.

You are right, clean and white was just right for this pretty table! I never cease to be amazed at how a coat of paint transforms and old, outdated piece. It's just adorable!

What more can I say than...DITTO...to all of the above posts. You can't even tell it is the same table. You are an inspiration!

wow, who would have thunk it! haha!
Did you sand it first? Looks like it had a hard coat of shiny eurathane. My step-brother is going into assisted living and I want to paint a desk for him. You are such an inspiration!

LOVE this so very much! Your work is beautiful. Have you considered doing an online tutorial to explain how to layer/sand and wax? A downloadable purchased video? I would be interested if you do!!
Thanks
