~ snippets of holiday sparkle at The Empty Nest ~

Hello lovely friends....hope you are all well and busy getting ready for Thanksgiving and then the festive December holiday season.

We have been very busy at The Empty Nest...painting furniture, sewing stockings, making beautiful displays of vintage style mercury glass and glittered seasonal decor.

I have to admit it is not really 'working' at all, but just plain 

FUN!

I thought you might like to see a few of my favorite things at

The Empty Nest

My gal Carol was , as she calls it, "shushing" the vintage garland display

and I LOVED how she placed the painted Gustavian mirror in just the perfect spot so as to beautifully reflect the many designs we carry this year.

When you walk into The Empty Nest, you see this right away and it really is gorgeous...makes you smile immediately!

I sorted and VERY carefully cleaned all my beautiful Polish, German and vintage American glass tree ornaments. I have slowly been collecting them for the last couple of years.

Sadly a few were so very delicate and thinly blown that they shattered in my hands!

Carol also painted some inexpensive glassware with Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan using Pure White. We then gently distressed them with a sanding block.

I applied double sided tape to the top edge and covered it with German Glass Glitter.

The tape gave me a perfect straight line and no need to wait for glue to dry.

So easy!!

We did not apply any wax to these because I liked the soft matte sheen and also because tape will not stick to wax.

Of course it would not be Christmas at the shop without my whimsical

hand crafted Holiday forest trees.

The Empty Nest also has the SnowTex and the German Glass Glitter that you will need to create your own little glittering forest.

Come pick some up before it sells out...last year it was hugely popular!

Lately I am really developing a crush on this antique painted tri-fold vanity mirror.

I did not paint it, this is the original finish. Very much like Annie's Duck Egg Blue.

I did add a touch of Imported French Gilding Wax along the beaded edges..here and there.

Love the 'Decayed Elegance' vibe it reflects with it's random mottled silvered mirror.

Like something to be found in an old Paris apartment.

This piece would look great on a mantle or just resting against a chic bedroom wall.

My dear friend Erin, of Harmony Farm Candles, has once again been creating the most wonderful and affordable handmade Soy candles.

Last year Wintergreen was extremely popular with my customers. Erin will also be creating Pumpkin Pie and Mulled Cider scents.

I am hoping she sneaks in some of her incredible Lavender candles also.

These candles make wonderful hostess or teacher gifts and you can't beat the price.
