"I don't know nuttin bout birthin no babies"

It's that time of year again. Our home sits on 3 acres of what once was a large hay field. That makes it perfect for Eastern Bluebirds. My husband set up 5 boxes for them and they have nested here for the past 8 years. We love watching them raise their babies and feel good about helping to increase the local Bluebird population. Right now two boxes have eggs in them. I will keep you posted on their progress.
It is another fabulous sunny morning and will probably reach 90 degrees today. A little bit of summer before spring? I planted my flower boxes for the back deck railing...lots of orange and red marigolds. I decided on marigolds because last year I noticed they were the only flower that was not bothered by bugs, drought or early cold nights. They bloomed from May right through November! As long as I dead-headed them, they kept on blooming. I saved the seeds for this year. I am all about low maintenance ;-) My husband is the real seed saver. He has become the master seeder in this home. It all started a few years ago when I made the mistake of showing him how one dried flower head contained many seeds and you can plant them the following year. WELL.....you could almost see the light bulb go on in his brain as he took in this tidbit of information. From that day on, not a seed drops to the ground before it is snatched up by my man. I think he needs a twelve step program for seed addiction!! Enough for now...be kind and stay creative.

Back in my previous life as a basket weaver I would dye the reed for easter baskets, robins egg blue was the most popular...isn't it an awesome color.
