Hello friends, I was going to post about what I have been up to in my studio lately. That is until I retrieved my mail from my mailbox this afternoon....
and found this!
Greencraft is one of Stampington & Co.'s many fabulous art publications. They are the publishing house responsible for great magazines like Where Woman Create, Apronology, Art Doll Quarterly, Altered Couture, Artful Blogging, Somerset Life, Somerset Home and many many more. They are all beautifully put together with gorgeous photography and features. Anyone can submit a handcrafted work and have an excellent chance of having it featured. I know..it has happened to me three times!
Here is my felted handbag.
This is not the best photo..I am taking a photo of the magazine photo. They still have the original bag.
I started with a Salvation Army $2.75 wool sweater. I machine felted it and cut two large rectangular pieces for the handbag. Before I sewed the handbag together, I needle felted the design using wool roving and yarn. I created a ruffled linen lining from some fabric scraps and made the straps from red grosgrain ribbon.
So cool to see my name in print!
My only complaint is that they forget to inform me ahead of time that I am going to be featured and I freak out when I turn the page and see one of my creations. But hey...I'm not really complaining...I secretly love it!
Thank you Stampington & Co...you made my day.
I encourage all you creators of fabulous art to start submitting..all they can say is "no thanks". The exposure is wonderful and the moral boost is even better.
Until next time...be kind and stay creative...then submit it!!!
A special Hello to all you new visitors from The RikRak Studio Blog. So happy you came to see what I was up to. Good luck to each of you in the Apron Giveaway. A huge Thank You again to my sweet friend Kristal. You made me sound so darn interesting... ;-)

Congrats! That is awesome.
How exciting Janet! Very beautiful bag...you're amazingly creative and talented. That is a bit of a shocker to find yourself between the pages of a magazine as you're flipping through. But I can see why they chose your bag. It's so clever!
Excellent! What a lovely article, you clever thing. ♥
Congratulatons Janet! It is so exciting to see your creations in print isn't it? I have never seen this particular magazine, I will have to look for it!
Oh, and by the way, the purse is wonderful, but that is what I expect whenever I see your gorgeous creations. You have such a wonderful creative flair!
You have such a creative talent, Janet.

Hi Janet!
We met in the deli line at Giant - we were buying couscous. :) I love your blog and think it's just a strange and wonderful twist of fate that you put our ham in your basket! Hee, hee! Congratulations on being featured in Green Craft - green is one of my very favorite topics! :)
Amy
Congrats to you! Super cute bag too!
Congratulations! Seeing this project you deserve to be featured. I have been collecting thrifted sweaters for some time trying to come up with different creative ideas for them. (hats. mittens, etc) Your idea is great for the more ornate sweaters.
I can never find Stampington mags preowned. No one gets rid of them.
So glad I found your blog.
Hey Janet, how exciting to open a magazine and find your work featured in it.
You certainly put the 'wow' factor into your work.
Congratulations
Claire X
