Little by Little.....

Hello friends...thank you for visiting again. I am slowly making progress on my kitchen . I have the bottom cabinets all primed and painted. I spent yesterday working on all the drawer fronts. Popping the movies, The Young Victoria and Meet Me In St. Louis, on in my computer helped a lot. The work goes so much faster when I watch a good movie and who doesn't love a great MGM Judy Garland musical?

I adore movies with lavish costumes and fabulous history.
I never even took anything out of the cabinets...just paint around it all!

I had the brilliant idea to mark the drawer fronts with a number and a right or left indicator. I thought that would help to make sure they were reinstalled in the proper location. Which would have worked out great, had I not painted over the markings...DUH!
I ended up testing each front until I found a fit..yeah, I know, I'm so smart.
Then I proudly stood back to gaze upon my work and noticed to my dismay, I had hung all the lower doors upside down!!
Will someone hand me that D**n screwdriver again!!

After spending a lot of time looking for the perfect knob..Home Depot, Lowe's, Craigs List and local hardware stores, I decided on a clean and simple matte finish black round knob.
what's more 'farmhouse' than that?
Ok....they were only $1.95 each compared to $5.00-$10.00 each for fancy ones. I'm betting Mrs. Farmer would have picked the plain black also.

Yes, that's a Christmas decoration still up ;-(
I think they look great.

Ok...now you see the two open cabinets on the left. Those will remain that way to show off my pretty cream dishes. I am going to paint the interior back and sides a different color than the soft grey walls. I really would love to use a color that is not the expected hue. I picked out two samples...one a very soft blue, but that seems too obvious. The other color is a very soft Peony blush , which I think is more of a 'Wow, I never thought to use that color!" type of choice. What do you think?

The color will be in a recessed area and will not be a bright pink at all, just a subtle blush of color. I am going to paint a section and see if it will work.
After all that hard work and decision making it was time for dinner

homemade pizza!
so good we had to have two!

I found a wonderful new pizza crust recipe. It got rave reviews and was crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside..perfect!
You can find it here.

Until next time...be kind and stay creative.

Ok..Ok...here is a sweet bird pic for you ..enjoy!

I just love the cabinets and hardware Janet! It is a long process though isn't it? Are you going to paint the insides of the bottom cabinets? I just realized how hard it will be to do the roll out shelves and things down there, yikes. Plus I'm afraid that with the heavy wear of baking dishes in and out the p[aint won't hold up very well. Maybe I'll line them with something to help. I just can't wait to see the final reveal. I love the blush peony color too, with grey walls? Gorgeous!

You are one busy girl! Love the pink...are you going to paint the shelves themselves or just the part you see (like the edges)? It looks great! So does the pizza and the cute birdie! Keep up the good work!

Can't wait to see the blush color. Good job, girl! Think of how much money you are saving on this project by doing it yourself :)

You kitchen is looking very inviting. My friend has a coffee colored kitchen (with cream) and did the inside of her see-through cabinets bright orange - sounds terrible but looks fantastic.

Hey janet, don't feel too bad. That 'brilliant' idea is just the sort of thing I would do.....
The peony blush is gorgeous, go for it.
It's all coming along nicely and good choice of handles.
That little tufted Titmouse, is so sweet. Kind of looks like he's having a bad hair day....

Must check out the pizza recipe it looks and sounds delish.

Great work, Janet! The kitchen is looking as charming as can be. Love the knobs...still waiting to check on that beadboard...am truly curious. I like the blush a lot. Can't wait to see if it works for you. Looks like you still have LOTS of snow on the ground. You asked me to send ours to you. I hope you appreciate it! Frankly I don't miss it over here one small bit!

Janet,

did you have to strip the builders cabinets before apply the primer? Which primer did you use? I'm glad you went with yellow BTW. Hey, you could change the color insidne the open cabinets when ever you needed a change ( and of course your curtains.)
