A big HELLO to all you new visitors to The Empty Nest.
I have been finding some pretty awesome sweaters at my local Salvation Macy's and I thought you might like to follow along while I do a very quick restyle on one.
Remember this juicy tangerine linen skirt I turned into Mademoiselle Montmirail?
She was lined with some silky fabric in the same luscious color.
I couldn't let that go to waste.
Let's take one very Spring like green wool turtleneck sweater. I love the small cable knit and the ribbing.
I wanted minimal shrinkage, so I softly machine felted the sweater. You can learn about felting here.
Make a clean cut up the center of your sweater, all the way through the collar.
Run a zig-zag stitch up both edges for stability.
I cut 2 strips, three times the length of my sweater front with my rotary pinking sheers. They are approx 2 inches wide.
Then I ran a running basting stitch to create the gathers for my ruffle. Make two of these.
Once you have pulled your ruffle to the desired fullness, the next step is to pin and sew the ruffle along both of the cut edges.
So juicy..juicy
I created a pretty cabbage rose from a strip of the tangerine linen skirt and a matching button.
Attach the rose about midway down and sew on a little hook and eye closure beneath the rose to hide it.
And there she is. Perfect for a sunny Spring day and so easy to create.
Wouldn't she look great on Easter Sunday with a white skirt or crisp linen slacks.
