Best BBQ Sauce In the Universe!

Feature Alert!
Thursday the April 21st, I will be a guest blogger on Remodelaholic's, a great  DIY blog. It was so sweet of Cassidy to invite me to share the details of my recent farmhouse kitchen restyle. I have had so many e-mails asking about what kind of paint, brushes and how I did it for under $500.00. I hope the post will answer all your questions. Please pop over and show some of that fabulous blogger support you guys are famous for.

Hello friends....happy you're here again.
You are in for a real treat.
Before we start creating the Universe's best BBQ sauce, I want to say "Hello" to my blog friend Wanda. Wanda blogs at ''Moments of Mine' and what a lovely blog it is. Wanda always manages to find heart shapes everywhere she goes on her gorgeous property. Well Wanda...I finally found one for you.
Enjoy!
No clue why I put salt in this photo..there is no salt in the recipe
Have I been sipping the Rum??
Ok...are you ready to cook?
Here is the written recipe:

Courtesy of ALLRECIPES.COM
1 CUP BROWN SUGAR
1/2 CUP CHILE SAUCE
1/2 CUP RUM
1/4 CUP SOY SAUCE
1/4 CUP KETCHUP
1/4 CUP WORCESTERSHIRE SAUCE
2 CLOVES GARLIC, CRUSHED
1 TEASPOON COLEMAN'S DRY MUSTARD
GROUND BLACK PEPPER TO TASTE
The first time I made this, I did not have rum in the house. I did have beer and I had seen recipes using beer.  I substituted and it was very good. The second time I did use the rum as the recipe calls for and let me tell you...HEAVEN!!!
Beg, borrow or steal (ok, not really) some rum for this sauce. It makes all the difference in the world,  and don't worry, the alcohol burns off while simmering and only the great flavor remains.

Place all the ingredients in a medium saucepan.
Whisk together and bring to a simmer on med heat.
Simmer for 30 minutes and stir occasionally.
While the sauce simmers, you can enjoy the last of my double daffodils.
Back to the sauce.
Just look at this gorgeous amber color and you should smell the aromas swirling around my kitchen.
I am not a big BBQ sauce fan, but I can eat this stuff with a spoon!
In fact...please excuse me a second.
Yum...that was delicious.
Once the sauce is finished simmering, you are good to go. You can use it immediately of refrigerate for another time. This recipe will make the same amount as a store bought bottle of BBQ sauce.
Vegetarians please look away now.
Now place your meat (baby back ribs for me) on the grill.
Once they are at least half way cooked, start basting with your sauce. If you baste too early, your sauce may burn.
Keep basting and turning your meat and watch for any flare-ups.
Don't these look mouth watering?
Plate up your meat with maybe a nice pasta salad (Dreamfields pasta) with a mixture of assorted olives, mozzarella balls, sliced red bell pepper, red onion and a simple vinaigrette dressing. Dreamfields is giving away a $1.00 off coupon on their website, so click on the link.
Let me say, dinner was fabulous.
I hope you give this recipe a try. The flavor is wonderful...a mixture of sweet, tangy, garlicky and just enough bite to make it special.
I know you will not be disappointed.

Now...onto another topic.
I have been on the hunt for an ottoman for my family room. Every Wednesday I head to my Salvation Macy's hoping that will be the day I find one. Whenever I see a good one it has a chair paired with it..UGH! That would  not be a problem except it is never a chair I like.
Last week I found this. The top is thick foam covered in off white vinyl and yellow piping.
The frame and legs are wood and I really liked the detail. This will look beautiful repainted. Maybe I'll try my new Annie Sloan's chalk paint and wax .
Not bad...I think this might work.
As you can see, the cushion is easily removed, so restyling it should not be difficult.
It is a little too high for a chair ottoman, but it is the perfect height for an ottoman/coffee table.
So my decision is this....shorten the legs or use as a coffee table?
What do you think?
Oh...and it was only $10.00!
Thanks for all your sweet comments, I love reading all of them.
Until next time...be kind and stay creative.
I am sharing this week with this blog

I'm thinking shorten the legs, paint, then get rid of the vinyl and go with something ...well less vinyl....cant wait to see what happens. If its sturdy enough to sit on, I would use it at the end of my bed or in my bathroom ....I just need to get out more...(to my Sal Macy's) looking for a low long dresser for melynda..: ))

Thank you for the wonderful BBQ Sauce recipe! It's looks so yummy!

Regarding the cute ottomon...I would live with it as a coffee table for awhile before cutting off the legs. If you cut them off, then decide you want to use it as a table, it will be too late. If you live with it for awhile, you'll be able to see how you want to use it in your home. :)

God bless you - Julie

The ottomon looks like a really great fine. I think you cut those legs down, recover the vinyl in something softer. It would be great for you feet to rest on.

Yum Janet! And it's almost BBQ time, even here! It will be fun to give this one a go. Can't wait to see how you transform that ottoman!

I can't wait to try your recipe! At first I was worried you were drinking coffee with BBQ sauce in it! Turns out it was just rum, ha!

I think I would like it with the legs cut off to the first knobby thing. They look a little long and skinny and it messes up the proportion for me...but it might just be a trick of photography since I can't see it for real.

I'm always trying new BBQ sauces so this one will be on my list! I had a coffee table/ottoman for a while and loved it. Everybody used to put their feet up on the coffee table anyway so it worked great for us.

I'm going to have to try the BBQ Sauce! As for the "find" I think I would cut in down and make it the height you want. If it doesn't turn out the way you like it, you can always replace the legs with something else you do like! But I have no doubt that you will make it fabulous!!

Janet- I've never used a home-made sauce before- in fact, a little chicken with some Masterpiece sauce has been the extent of my foray into bbq. I know- pretty bad. But man oh man, this sounds really good. I could certainly see this sauce on some ribs... Crack me up on the rum comment, btw.
I have to check out this chalk paint everyone is raving about. That bench of yours has some great details that would make it look great as an coffee table once you shorten the legs.
Glad you popped over. Blogger plays strange games, I guess. Have a Happy Easter!
